The project

Why this project?
it s a Erasmus + project :
“Connecting Sport, Nature and People for the Planet”(e-SNI) is an innovative project combining the practice of an outdoor sport called Orienteering (Course d'Orientation) with personal development and awareness of the environment. We would like to introduce young people to this mixed-gender outdoor activity as well as to develop knowledge about the environment. This project is in line with the "objective2030" agenda of the UN in terms of advocating sustainable development. The project aims to develop the notion of tolerance where there is a growing tendancy for people to cling to their cultural identity.

Who are the parteners?
This project is an exchange between 2 schools in Finland and France

France   : Saint Julien Chapteuil                                         Finlande : Kokkola

What are the objectives of the project?
RELATIONSHIPS : FRATERNITY
- Respect equity (girls/boys) and inclusion of all (students with disabilities).
- Develop a transnational partnership and show the universality of the links that unit us in Europe
 - Promote mobility and openness to others.
- Allow young people to develop the pleasure of undertaking an adventure while being aware of the necessary solidarity between individuals and peoples.
- Federate the multiple project partners: schools, local authorities, sports and environmental associations.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Help overcome academic difficulties or improve motivation for learning and give meaning, goals and perseverance to the students in our schools.
Orienteering in groups is a great way to generate exchanges and cultural sharing between the participants.

ENVIRONMENT
- Promote environmental awareness including : forests, parks, semi-open spaces and urban areas. Orienteering can be done on foot, on skis or mountain bikes for example.
- A sport practice as individual and local action has global and collective repercussions The interest of a transnational project allows through an exchange of practices and different living spaces to cultivate in young people a motivation to develop individually (sports practice, language learning, ..) while creating a collective consciousness (European Citizenship) and this by responding to the urgency of protecting the environment.

HEALTH / WELL-BEING
- Orienteering is specific: it is an outside activity which solicits both body and mind. To enable young people to develop individually, physically and mentally, in full awareness of their actions.
The body thus develops its respiratory, muscular and cardiovascular capacities.
Endurance, the sense of observation, and speed of decision are faculties solicited as well.

Exchange periods

The 4 mobilities are planned between France and Finland in an identical format with similar actions:
- Orienteering in several different environments (urban, rural, forests ..) with different media (on foot, mountain bikes, skis, rollerblades ...),
- Participating in an event where the profits will go towards the development of the orienteering(creation of maps, financing of transport to participate in competitions ...),
- Environmental awareness (cleaning up woods, watching reports about nature ...), and creating respect for the fauna and flora,
- Doing orienteering courses in a town with cultural questions and in natural areas with questions on the environment and health.

Mobility organisation:

France March2020
Finland May 2020
Finland February 2021
France May 2021

How will this work be set up in the schools?

To carry out this ambitious and environmental project each country will determine a working time with a group of volunteer students.

In France this project concerns the school's sports section orienteering. There are 24 students and 4 teachers who will take part in the mobilities. The group meets 2 hours per week as part of their school schedule plus time for competitions and outside activities as well.
